A few weeks after I noticed my problem I decided I'd buy the seal from Tom. To be honest with you, this is a cheap investment. For just $10 and about 45 min. of your time you can fix this leak/nightmare. I personally went through more money in fluid than I did on this seal and yes, I feel stupid for doing so. Tom's directions are so simple, and the mess really does cease to exist after the install. Once I pulled the case off the pump, I saw more than just the replacement seal (2 or 3 more). I trusted what Tom had said saying to myself that if this doesn't work than it was just a $10 investment into something that'll now not occure in the future. When installing, do pay attention to which side is facing which. I forgot to do this, and just threw my original seal away. Thankfully, I got it installed correctly the first time (the inner spring part goes in facing the pump); nothing to it.
Basically, if you can turn a wrench and can locate your P.S. pump then you can fix this problem. I'd never changed a belt before today (never had to do so in the past) and decided this would be the perfect time while I had the other removed. I'd suggest this if you've not changed the PS belt in a while (or don't remember when it was last changed). If you can find Gates Belts, then use them. Gates seems to be the leading company in performance belts, but they are hard to find. Here, there's an Oriley Auto Parts about 10 miles away that supplies Gates, but I decided to just use one of my new spares. Anyhow, it's all a simple process.
Remember that the bolt holding the PS Pump Pulley in place is a reverse thread and that you do have to go clock wise with it. I do believe this is the hardest part, so good luck to all. Also, send Tom an Email (tom@ludespeed.com) if/when you do this. I don't know when this leak issue really becomes a problem, but my 88Si4ws lude only has 141K on it. If your PS Pump is around the same mileage wise, you might just want to keep a close eye out under the hood. Good luck to all doing this; Tom and I are rootin' for ya.
Ps. My steering feel really improved quite a bit; no more slugishness!
